Definition
This entry will focus on partnerships that have CSR-related goals. Nelson and Zadek (2000) give the following definition, calling such partnerships New Social Partnerships:
People and organizations from some combination of public, business and civil constituencies who engage in voluntary, mutually beneficial, innovative relationships to address common societal aims through combining their resources and competencies. (p. 14)
Today these partnerships are no longer new, so the relationships will not necessarily be innovative any more. Usually, a partnership will strive to provide innovative solutions to the problems it addresses.
The cross-sector aspect of the definition is important, as most CSR-related partnerships involve at least the public and private (business) sectors or the private and civil (volunteer) sectors of society.
