Zusammenfassung
Der methodologische Evolutionismus erklärt die Emergenz angepasster Gestaltung durch einen Prozess blinder Variation und selektiver Retention. Der methodologische Evolutionismus wird in der allgemeinen Evolutionstheorie und -philosophie üblicherweise unter der Bezeichnung ‚universeller Darwinismus‘ diskutiert. Prominente Vertreter sind neben dem bereits zitierten Psychologen Donald Campbell auch der Evolutionsbiologe Richard Dawkins (Evolution from molecules to men, S. 403–425, 1983) und der Evolutionsphilosoph Daniel Dennett (Darwins gefährliches Erbe, 1997). Um den methodologischen Charakter der These zu betonen und insbesondere die negativen Konnotationen, die gerade im deutschsprachigen Raum mit dem Begriff des Darwinismus verbunden sind, zu vermeiden, spreche ich lieber und, wie ich meine, auch zutreffender von einem methodologischen Evolutionismus. Die Position des methodologischen Evolutionismus als unverzichtbare Grundlage jeder Erklärung angepasster Gestaltbildung wird in Kap. 1 genauer ausgeführt. Soziale Prozesse stellen einen Spezialfall evolutionärer Prozesse dar und werden auf dieser allgemeinen Ebene von der Soziobiologie untersucht (siehe Kap. 2). In diesem Zusammenhang ist es wichtig, auch die Bedeutung der genetischen Gruppenselektion hervorzuheben, die einen entscheidenden Beitrag zur soziobiologischen Erklärung der Evolution kooperativer Sozialformen im Allgemeinen und der Eusozialität von Ameisenkolonien im Besonderen leistet.
