1773 Publikation der ersten Gedichtsammlung; 1774 Heirat mit dem Geistlichen Rochemont Barbauld, mit dem sie eine Schule gründete und bis 1785 leitete; verfasste 1778–1781 Kinderliteratur, 1790–1793 Pamphlete; gab 1807–1810 die 50-bändige Anthologie The British Novelists heraus; zog sich 1812 nach scharfer Kritik an ihrem politischen Gedicht Eighteen Hundred and Eleven aus der Öffentlichkeit zurück.
