Diese 1549 erschienene sprachpolitische und dichtungstheoretische Programmschrift entstand als Replik auf Thomas Sebillets Art poëtique françois (1548). Pamphlet, Plädoyer und Poetik in einem, gilt sie neben Ronsards Abrégé de l'art poétique françois und seinen Vorworten zu dem Epos Franciade als wichtigstes Dokument der literarischen Schule der Pléiade.
