1898 Studium der Nationalökonomie, Philosophie und Gesellschaftslehre; 1903 Promotion; 1907 Habilitation an der TH Brünn, dort seit 1909 Professor; 1919 Professor für Nationalökonomie und Gesellschaftslehre in Wien; entwickelte eine philosophische, soziologische und wirtschaftswissenschaftliche Lehre des „Universalismus“, damit Ideengeber des antidemokratischen Konservatismus im deutschen Sprachraum; nach dem ‚Anschluss‘ Österreichs an Deutschland 1938 Amtsenthebung, einige Monate Internierung durch die Nationalsozialisten; lebte seither zurückgezogen im österreichischen Burgenland.
