Wrights Œuvre entstand in einem Zeitraum von vier Jahrzehnten. Die Six Poems (Sechs Gedichte) erschienen 1965, es folgten u. a. Private Madrigals, 1969 (Private Madrigale), The Grave of the Right Hand, 1970 (Das Grab der rechten Hand), The Venice Notebook, 1971 (Das Venezianische Notizbuch), Backwater, 1973 (Stauwasser), Colophons 1977 (Kolophone), Dead Color, 1980 (Tote Farbe), Four Poems of Departure, 1983 (Vier Aufbruchsgedichte), und Five Journals, 1986 (Fünf Tagebücher). Wright ist auch Verfasser kritischer Prosa wie Halflife, 1988 (Halbwertszeit), und Quarter Notes, 1995 (Viertelnoten).
