Zussamenfassung
Das OEuvre Hofmannsthals besteht zu einem beträchtlichen Teil aus Operndichtungen, die der Autor für die Vertonung durch Richard Strauss verfasst hat. Bereits im November 1900 versuchte er mehrfach Kontakt zum Komponisten aufzunehmen; er bot ihm sein Ballett Der Triumph der Zeit an, das Strauss jedoch als Textgrundlage ablehnte.
