Zusammenfassung
In den letzten Jahren hat es kaum eine öffentliche Debatte über Tiere in Menschenhand gegeben, in der nicht die Begriffe ›artgerecht‹ oder ›tiergerecht‹ an zentraler Stelle aufgetaucht wären – in der Regel nicht definiert, häufig synonym verwandt und selten wissenschaftlich fundiert. Dabei beschäftigt sich eine Reihe von wissenschaftlichen Disziplinen mit diesen Termini: Von der Philosophie (insbesondere der Tierethik), über die Rechts-(Tierschutzgesetzgebung) und Sozialwissenschaften (Mensch-Tier-Beziehung) bis hin zur Veterinärmedizin und Biologie.
