Abstract

Acetaminophen is commonly used over-the-counter for mild pain and fever and as a prescription in combination with opioids. It is often preferred to nonsteroidal anti-inflammatories (NSAIDs) given its minimal gastrointestinal and platelet effects, as well as reduced risk of nephrotoxicity and drug interactions. However, acetaminophen can cause hepatotoxicity at supratherapeutic doses and caution should be taken to maintain doses within recommended limits.
