Abstract

Several measurements of performance parameters are required to test the operation of nuclear medicine equipment in the clinical setting. The importance of the parameters and frequencies of the tests are essentially dependent on the purpose of the imaging and how often the equipment is used. For static imaging, a decision is needed in each type of examination about what is adequate resolution and quality. For dynamic acquisitions it is important to achieve a good count rate performance. If the gamma camera is used for SPECT examinations, then field uniformity is a crucial parameter. Safety tests are included both in acceptance testing and in regular quality control. The following recommendations do not include safety tests but rather focus on performance measurements of the equipment that is being tested for performance.
