Abstract
This communication is focused on the latest techniques of virtual reality applied to the representation and enhancement of the architectural heritage. Specifically, the study will be applied to the representation and analysis of one of the most emblematic buildings of Valencia, the Almudín. Initially we will perform a study to analyze the convenience of applying SfM (Structure from Motion) automated photogrammetry techniques, in front of other techniques such as traditional 3D modeling from a previous 2D survey. Moreover, we will compare two of the most recent techniques for interactive virtual visualization. On the one hand, the photographic technique based on spherical panoramas of the real model. On the other hand, the virtual visualization generated by a three-dimensional model, which provides a continuous viewing experience like that produced by real-time visualization applications such as Unreal or Cryengine video game engines. The main objective of the work is the application of the studied techniques to the development of a computer model of the Almudín of Valencia, which can be visualized in an interactive and immersive way through the Internet using different platforms, either personal computers or mobile devices. This model will also provide additional information about the history and the main features of the monument, as well as its constructive evolution throughout history.
