Interventions in Career Design and Education

Part of the book series: Lifelong Learning Book Series ((LLLB,volume 23))

Abstract

This chapter discusses work-related changes that have taken place globally over the past few decades and how these have influenced the world of the work and workers. It then highlights the situation of people living in developing countries in particular, including how career counseling intervention is still predominantly conducted in these countries. The theoretical and conceptual framework for life design counseling and its potential for promoting career adaptability and resilience, employability and access to sustainable, decent work is introduced. Two career interventions implemented in this framework in the context of the Good Work Foundation (GWF) Good Work Foundation. (2018). Our stories. Retrieved from http://www.goodworkfoundation.org/, 2016) education model for rural Africa are presented. These two interventions projects (in progress) aim to examine how career choice making, career adaptability, career resilience as well as a sense of self-improvement and identity formation could be promoted among young people. The observations resulting in these interventions have shown that they felt more employable and could gain access to decent work. The chapter ends with a consideration of how projects like these can contribute to sustainable development and decent work.
