Abstract

This chapter discusses the evaluation, etiologies, and select management of lower eyelid entropion and ectropion. Entropion, or a turning inward of the lower eyelid margin, may be due to involutional, cicatricial, spastic, or congenital etiologies. Ectropion, or turning outward of the eyelid margin, may be due to involutional, cicatricial, paralytic, mechanical, or congenital causes. The principal goals of surgical correction for both entropion and ectropion are re-establishment of normal anatomy, corneal protection, preservation of vision, a normalization of the ocular tear surface, and cosmesis.
