Abstract
Tracheal tumors are a rare entity, accounting for 0.2% of malignant neoplasms of the respiratory tract. Primary tracheal tumors are usually malignant in adults. The most frequent tumors are squamous cell carcinomas and adenoid cystic carcinomas. The diagnosis is difficult and is often delayed because the trachea has large functional reserve. The clinical presentation is variable and may include dyspnea, wheezing, stridor, cough, hemoptysis, or symptoms associated with the infiltration of adjacent structures. CT and bronchoscopy are the gold standard for diagnosis and staging of tracheal tumors. Surgery represents the primary curative treatment, and other treatments include endoscopic resection, radiotherapy, and chemotherapy.
