Abstract
Bedside ultrasound can be a useful tool for emergency medicine physicians. It can enhance the physical examination by providing valuable information when undiagnosed, acutely ill patients present. Patients with cardiac disease can present to the emergency department with nonspecific symptoms that are difficult to recognize. Bedside cardiac ultrasound evaluation can help identify life-threatening conditions and help guide care. This chapter describes the technique of performing a bedside cardiac ultrasound assessment and highlights some key clinical scenarios where it may be beneficial.
