Abstract
Lichen sclerosus is a chronic inflammatory disease affecting genital and extragenital areas of females and, less frequently, males. It causes itch and pain and leads to scarring and atrophy of the affected areas. The diagnosis is usually performed by clinical and histopathological examination. Dermatoscopy of lichen sclerosus shows the presence of whitish patches associated with linear branching or dotted vessels; comedo-like openings represent less frequent findings. This aspect allows recognizing lichen sclerosus, ruling out other conditions, such as vitiligo, post-inflammatory depigmentation, and morphea.
