Abstract
Although the term has been in existence for a number of years, binge eating disorder (BED) has received quite a lot of attention in the last 5 years. The term “binge” is defined in Webster’s Dictionary as “unrestrained indulgence.” Given this vague definition, it is easy to see why research has often been fraught with difficulties. Typically binge eating disorders like bulimia involve eating “a large amount of food” in a short span of time. It is often clarified as being a larger amount than most people would in a similar amount of time in similar circumstances. However, it is easy to see that there is much room for significant misinterpretation and, as such, errors in generating criteria to identify true negatives.
