Abstract
Anorectal complaints are a common reason for presentation to clinic and can cause patients anxiety and embarrassment. The ability to comprehensively evaluate an anorectal complaint is an important component of clinical practice. Proper anorectal evaluation consists of obtaining a detailed history of the complaint, medical and family history, physical exam including visualization and palpation of the anorectal area, anoscopy, and endoscopy when indicated. This algorithm streamlines the clinical process of anorectal evaluation.
