Abstract

Big data provides new business opportunities. Companies can use big data to gain competitive advantage, and to make disruptive innovations. But also, data acquisition, transformation, integration, analysis and visualization can bring business opportunities. This paper looks at big data from a business perspective. Porter’s value chain model is applied to big data, and is used as a framework to identify business opportunities. Some common revenue models from electronic commerce are presented and their applicability is discussed.
