Abstract

There have been remarkable scientific and technical advancements which have dramatically improved the management of patients receiving intensive treatments for acute leukemia and other hematologic malignancies such that treatment failure due to bleeding and infection is now uncommon. The history of the development of these approaches to the prevention and treatment of infections, hemorrhage and nausea and vomiting will be reviewed in this chapter.
