Abstract
This paper describes the design, delivery, and student engagement with a course on Medicine and the Arts offered to medical students in a Middle Eastern context. Also reported in the paper is how the course provides students with the knowledge, skills, and attitudes to develop an appreciation for the arts, and an understanding of their connection to medicine. The study investigates the ways in which a group of 15 students at Qatar University’s College of Medicine found the course useful for their future practice as well as their personal development and growth. Empirical data are drawn from students’ reflective writing about the course as well as classroom observation. The paper also reflects on how this kind of multi-disciplinary course can be further researched and accordingly improved in order to better facilitate student learning and development toward their future profession.
