Patent Ductus Arteriosus (PDA)

Abstract

A PDA is a condition where the ductus (connection between pulmonary artery and aorta) remains patent. A PDA is usually diagnosed in infancy or early childhood but may remain hemodynamically insignificant until the adult years. This section will review the physiology of the lesion and anesthetic considerations of parturients with this cardiac anomaly.
