Abstract
Hysteroscopy and contraception have always been closely related, albeit perhaps not always in daily practice, but ever since the existence of hysteroscopy pioneers have tried to find ways to perform sterilization through this route.
This chapter gives an overview of the history of hysteroscopic sterilization, of the systems that are or have been on the market, of research that has been performed on this subject, and of possible future developments.
The latest data on actual items such as late adverse effects of implants will also be addressed.
This chapter is an updated version of an earlier publication: Thurkow A. Ch. 5: “Hysteroscopic Sterilization” in Minimally Invasive Gynecological Surgery. Istre O (ed.), Springer-Verlag, Berlin, 2015, ISBN 978-3-662-44058-2.
