Handbook of DSM-5 Disorders in Children and Adolescents

Abstract

The consolidation of the DSM-IV pervasive developmental disorders into the DSM-5 diagnosis of autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is reviewed. Furthermore, the establishment of social language pragmatic disorder, a condition which is somewhat similar to ASD, is also reviewed. Evidence that is presented related to the symptomology, etiology, course, and prognosis is also reviewed for both diagnoses and a case to be made for differential diagnosis.
