Abstract
I have experienced life as a person with a disability, as a specialist medical doctor, a teacher, a family person, and as a disability rights activist. The varied experiences and notable discrimination forced me to “react” as well as “respond.” Being a staunch proponent of health humanities, I paused, wondered, and reflected on these experiences as per Kolbe’s experiential model, and later transitioned into Gibbs iterative model of self-reflection. The journey has been exhilarating as I unearthed hidden layers of my own capacity. In this chapter, my transition from a sufferer to an activist is presented in evocative autoethnography with narratives from my life offering an understanding into the larger political, social, and cultural scenario of living in India with disabilities.
