Prevention of Injuries in the Young Dancer

Abstract

Ultrasound has become widely used in the field of sports medicine and particularly in the diagnosis and treatment of dance injuries. There are many uses for ultrasound in the treatment of young dancers, including diagnosis of soft tissue injuries, guidance for advanced injections and procedures, as well as newer uses during the pre-participation examination to help with risk assessment and injury prevention. In this chapter we will discuss the more common diagnoses seen in the young dancer that can be evaluated using ultrasound imaging, treatment options with ultrasound guidance, and pertinent uses during the pre-participation examination.
