Parasitic Worms, Protozoa, and Treponema in Dermatology

Abstract

Parasitic worms consisting of parasitic ones of the groups nematodes, trematodes, and cestodes have great impact on human health. Parasitic helminth infestations are widespread in the world. Protozoa are classified as unicellular eukaryotic organisms, among which amebae and leishmania are important in dermatology. Treponema, a genus of spiral-shaped bacteria, has importance in dermatology. This group of bacteria is responsible for syphilis, bejel, yaws, and pinta.

This chapter provides a review on infestations and infectious diseases caused by parasitic worms, protozoa, and treponema of importance in dermatology.
