Abstract
This chapter aims to explore the importance of the solo journey as an avenue for connecting with one’s own intuition and building personal resilience. As a ten-year-old, the author found herself bivvi-ing in a bin liner in a hidden valley of the English Lake District, washing in streams, exploring, and carrying all that was needed to survive. A year later at 11, her imagination was captivated by the walkers in a Scottish youth hostel…and the freedom their journey represented. As a young adult, these early foundations were built upon. This story traverses the emotional and cultural awakening and the resilience that was built, travelling during the early 1990s from London to the chaos of Mumbai, overland to Kathmandu, and by foot high up into the Himalayas.
