Abstract
The incidence of chronic kidney disease continues to rise while the utilization of peritoneal dialysis (PD) as a mode of renal replacement therapy continues to decline. In response to decreased enthusiasm in PD, best-demonstrated practices for peritoneal dialysis catheter placement was published in 2006. Since that time, the long-term durability of PD at our institution has increased significantly. In this chapter, we describe the indications for laparoscopic PD catheter placement, our surgical technique, common pitfalls with PD catheter function, and our outcomes with this surgical approach.
