Thumb Ulnar Collateral Ligament Injuries (Gamekeeper’s and Skier’s Thumb)

Abstract

Thumb ulnar collateral ligament injuries can be acute (skier’s thumb) or chronic (gamekeeper’s thumb) and result in valgus laxity of the thumb metacarpophalangeal joint. Acute, complete ruptures and tears complicated by an interposed Stener lesion often require operative treatment. Surgical management involves repair, reconstruction, or, in salvage cases, arthrodesis.
