Abstract
Newer methods of communication have largely contributed to the transformations of contemporary health service delivery. Interactive online health resources, which have profoundly affected the way in which healthcare is delivered, and with this, have brought changes in the relationship between doctor and patient. In this study, we try to find out what the characteristics of electronic doctor-patient health communication are and how we can identify features of electronic doctor’s advice that increase patient’s confidence and understanding. By using online medical counseling discourse analysis to find out how patients talk about health-related topics and how doctors response them we describe adaptive discursive models the doctors use to provide them with information the patients can trust.

The typical example of an electronic doctor-patient health communication looks as following:
Question. I've had a bad cold for several days, so I began drinking orange juice on Saturday. By Saturday night, my arms and hand were itching really bad. I took 2 Benadryl so I could sleep. I had a raspberry freezer pop for my throat as well. Sunday morning, I was still itching. I thought it was the raspberry freezer pop, so took more Benadryl. Long story short, I just realized that the only thing I've been eating or drinking since the itching began has been orange juice. I stopped the orange juice last night around 6 pm. Today, my hands arms and shoulders are still itching but it's not as bad. Before my legs and feet were itchy. Today my body still feels like my skin is crawling. Did I have an allergic reaction to orange juice and what should I do to make this stop? Do I continue with Benadryl? I'm at work and Benadryl makes me drowsy. How long does this last? Please help! Answer. Thank you for asking your query at DoctorSpring. Yes, this itching which you are experiencing can be a part of the allergic reaction to some of the ingredients in the orange juice. Since you have this history of allergy to food items and seasonal allergies it is quite possible that this is an allergic reaction. Orange juice can contain slight amount of salicylates (naturally). This component may be the culprit here. It is a good thing that you have stopped the orange juice consumption. I recommend you to take a balanced nutritious meal, which is allergy-safe from your experience. Go for the safes, non-allergic food as per you experience. Just take Benadryl for 1 more day (since when you stopped the orange juice). You can stop it and see how your body responds. If the itching still persists for more than 48 h, we need to look into other possible allergens. You may want to visit a Doctor too, in person. Hope this helps.

There is an example of pain related dialog:
Question. I have pain under my lower left rib cage und back. I have had these symptoms for nearly a year and have recently had my gallstone removed, but the symptoms persist. The pain seems to peak in the early hours of the morning and wakes me up. Answer. Hello, Thank you for asking your query. Form your question I understand that you are having a rather troubling pain in the lower left rib cage und back. There are many possibilities for this pain but the ones I would like to consider are the following: 1. Musculoskeletal pain at ribs and intercostal muscles; 2. Lung/Pleural irritation; 3. Diaphragmatic irritation; 4. A splenic involvement; 5. Peptic Ulcer; 6. A pancreatic involvement; 7. A spine problem, with pain radiating. Now there is no need for any alarm. The way we go about finding the cause is a step by step approach and to rule out most common and not to miss causes. For that you will need to get few tests done with the help of your Physician. This will be a Chest Xray, Xray of spine AP and later, a Ultrasound of Abdomen, Complete Cholesterol study, S. Amilase, S. Lipase. This will rule out many possibilities and if needed further tests can be done. I am sure you many options for pain relief. Now I would recommend you to use an anti Ulcer drug (Pantoprazol/Omeprazol) in consultation with your Physician. This has to be taken just before sleep. If the pain has an ulcer component in it, this will help. Hope this helps. Please feel free to ask any follow-up questions.
