Abstract
The healthcare system in the United States is complex. The system prior to 2010 consisted of employer-sponsored private insurance covering the majority of the individuals in the US, with some covered under public insurance and approximately 40 million uninsured individuals. Under the old system, these uninsured individuals had very little resources available to them to navigate the system. With the passage of the Affordable Care Act the landscape will change; more employers will offer insurance, many individuals will be purchasing insurance on their own via state-based healthcare exchanges, Medicaid rolls will increase and there will be increased subsidies for the poor to purchase health insurance .
