Basal Implantology

Abstract

All implant systems may fail in difficult situations, when patients do not follow instructions, or for a variety of other reasons, including accidents. Treatment of implant-related problems should always be considered an emergency situation because failure to act properly can result in more damage and expenses. The patient who calls to indicate that his or her implant-supported restoration is “loose” should be seen as soon as possible. When feasible, the previous practitioner of any new patient presenting at consultation should be contacted to obtain precise information about the particular case and the implant system used. The issuance of patient implant cards and data exchange over the Internet facilitate information transfer. The advice of a professional experienced in basal implantology should be sought whenever necessary.
