Abstract

Indications for laparoscopic Nissen fundoplication in the pediatric population are similar to those for the adult population. On top of that, in the pediatric population, gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) can also be complicated by failure to thrive, recurrent episodes of aspiration, and laryngospasm leading to severe cyanotic or apneic events. These are also indications for Nissen fundoplication. This chapter describes indications, essential steps, variations, and complications of this procedure. It provides a detailed template operative note for the procedure.
