Abstract

Employment is an important marker of success for adults, including those with developmental disabilities. High school Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) can include job training and part-time jobs as preparation for postsecondary employment for students in special education. Vocational rehabilitation services, supported by both federal and state funds, can help provide skills and support for employment for these individuals. As recent legislation has encouraged a shift toward funds addressing those students transitioning to the workplace for the first time, new models of training in place have developed to increase the success of adults with disabilities in the workforce.
