Abstract
The application process begins during the first and second years of medical school. Ultimately, all information in your CV, personal statement, letters of recommendation, and clinical clerkships will determine your ability to match into a residency program. Here we review the steps in the application process and the application itself with suggestions on how to maximize your chances of matching into a surgical residency. The recommendations in this chapter are based on students in a 4-year program, who complete their core clinical year during the 3rd year. Adjust the timeline based on your specific educational plan.
