Abstract

Semicrystalline morphology of polymers is determined by the thermodynamic and kinetic factors in crystallization. In this chapter, we made a brief survey on our current understanding about thermodynamics and kinetics of polymer crystallization. On thermodynamics, we introduced the melting point, metastable states, phase diagrams, mesophase formation, as well as those structural factors governing melting points, mainly on the basis of the mean-field lattice statistical theory of crystallizable polymer solutions. On kinetics, we introduced crystal nucleation, crystal growth and crystal annealing, mainly on the basis of the classical nucleation theory and the related kinetic equations.
