Abstract

Scalp is a peculiar anatomical site because of the presence of hair, esthetical implications, and the “different” clinical presentation of some of the most common inflammatory and neoplastic diseases.

The possibility of a noninvasive visualization of scalp microscopy could be of great support for clinical management of patient. On the scalp, in vivo reflectance confocal microscopy has been already demonstrated to be useful for alopecia diagnosis and therapeutical follow-up. In addition, starting from the previous and spread experience on skin diseases, also skin tumors and other inflammatory skin diseases affecting the scalp can be examined and managed using in vivo reflectance confocal microscopy.
