Abstract
The chapter discusses the particular problems that Beowulf poses for lexomic analysis, among them the differing orthography of the two scribes and wide variation among scholarly editions of the poem. The decision to use the fourth edition of Fr. Klaeber's Beowulf as a base text is explained, as are the various techniques used for processing the text. Procedures for creating a self-normalized text of Beowulf are also detailed.
