Management of a Preimplantation Genetic Diagnosis and Screening Service

Organization and Management of IVF Units

Abstract

Preimplantation genetic diagnosis and screening of oocytes and embryos is generally considered preferable to prenatal diagnosis since it avoids pregnancies complicated by inherited genetic disorders and aneuploidy. Next generation sequencing has become progressively cheaper and provides more diagnostic information than could be achieved previously. However, provision of a clinical genetic service demands a highly co-ordinated interaction between reproductive medicine specialists, genetic counsellors, embryologists, molecular biologists and clinical geneticists.
