Burn Care for General Surgeons and General Practitioners

Abstract

The burn injury can be a very challenging injury for all the members of the Burn Team, but most especially for the surgeon. It has long been stated that the best way to treat a burn is to prevent it from occurring in the first place. This chapter is designed to provide the surgeon with some basic tools and ideas needed to promote fire and burn safety prevention at the local, state, and regional levels. Since specific prevention topics and efforts may vary depending upon the identified need, location, and audience, it is important that the surgeon consider including all aspects of a well-defined prevention campaign to ensure success.
