Surgery of the Spine and Spinal Cord

Abstract

The approach to the management of metastatic tumors of the spine has dramatically changed over the course of the past three decades. Advancements in diagnostics, treatment modalities, patient expectations, a better understanding of the condition, and the effect of various treatment modalities on outcome through peer-reviewed literature have fueled such change. Despite our best efforts, intervention for metastatic spine tumors remains largely palliative, with curative spinal intervention being even controversial for most histologies.
