PET/CT in Lymphomas

Abstract

Primary gastric non-Hodgkin lymphomas (PG-NHL) are localized in the stomach, with or without perigastric and/or abdominal lymph node involvement, and represent 20–30 % of all primary extranodal NHL. Any histological subtype can arise in the stomach, but the main two histological subtypes of PG-NHL are diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) and MALT NHL which represent 60 % and 35 % of the cases, respectively. Helicobacter pylori infection has been implicated in the pathogenesis of PG MALT NHL, but its role in gastric DLBCL is controversial [6]. The role of fluorine-18-2-flouoro-2-deoxy-D-glucose positron emission tomography (18F-FDG-PET) scan has been well established only in PG DLBCL while its use is controversial for PG MALT NHL. In this chapter we provide (18F-FDG-PET) scan images from patients with PG NHL and we discuss the role of (18F-FDG-PET) scan in diagnosis and evaluation of response in this type of lymphomas.
