L-Arginine in Clinical Nutrition

Abstract

It is well known that metabolic syndrome is a cluster of metabolic abnormalities, which includes impaired glucose regulation, hypertension, dyslipidaemia, obesity, and increased cardiovascular disease risk (Alberti et al., Circulation 120:1640–1645, 2009). Metabolic syndrome affects one in five people, and prevalence increases with age; some studies estimate the prevalence in the USA to be nearly 25 % of the population (Park et al., Arch Intern Med 163:427–436, 2003).
