Abstract
The cerebellum can be the primary organ for immune mediated insults perhaps more commonly than the rest of the brain. The reasons for this remain unclear. Perhaps this relates to the morphologically distinct classes of cells that are very different to the rest of the brain, as well as the complex and multiple connections it has with almost the whole of the rest of the central nervous system. This chapter will discuss a number of such immune mediated ataxias that include primary autoimmune cerebellar ataxia, gluten ataxia, anti-GAD ataxia and post infectious cerebellitis.
