Abstract
Cysticercosis is a common ocular tapeworm infection in the developing world caused by Cysticercus cellulosae, the larval form of the pork tapeworm Taenia solium. Ocular and adnexal cysticercosis represents 13–46 % of systemic disease. It may affect any portion of the visual pathway from the orbit to the visual cortex. The symptoms depend on the mass effect of the cyst and the inflammation caused due to the dying parasite. A translucent spherical or globular cyst with a highly reflective scolex on imaging is characteristic of cysticercosis. Treatment needs to be individualised and varies from cysticidal therapy with oral steroids to surgical removal.
