Abstract
Plasmacytomas, or plasma cell tumors, are typically singular tumors that arise in the bone. They rarely occur in the sellar/parasellar region, where the clivus and sphenoid wing are most commonly affected.
They may be solitary or the presenting tumor of multiple myeloma (MM), which often consists of multifocal osteolytic tumors, pathological fractures, hypercalcemia, and anemia.
MM occurs much more frequently in the spine; an intracranial presentation accounts for only 3 % of MM.
Conversely, occult MM is common in cases with a monofocal cranial presentation.
Patients diagnosed with plasmacytoma are often older adults.
Sellar region plasmacytoma is extremely uncommon, accounting for 0.02 % of major transsphenoidal series.
