Hysterectomy

Abstract

Omentectomy defines the removal of the large omentum as part of surgical staging, most commonly for ovarian cancer, germ cell ovarian tumours, borderline ovarian disease, and serous or advanced endometrial cancer (Cancer) “as reported by du Bois (Cancer 115:1234–44, 2009), as reported by Vernooij (Gynecol Oncol 105:801–12, 2007), as reported by Trillsch (Br J Cancer 112:660–6, 2015)”. The procedure can be divided into infra- or supracolic omentectomy, indicating the extent of radicality of the dissection. This chapter will describe the anatomical landmarks, surgical techniques, potential risks and the caveats associated with the procedure.
