Abstract

Pericarditis is an acute or chronic inflammation of the pericardium. Acute pericarditis is a frequent condition, and may be due to many causes, although in many cases the correct aetiology remains undetermined. The commonest symptom of pericarditis is chest pain and its diagnosis includes changes on the ECG, an increase inflammatory markers, and pericardial effusion at imaging. First line therapy in acute pericarditis is nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs.
