Abstract
The nipple areola complex (NAC) is a unique structure of the human body. It is not only a functional structure – it also plays a sexual and esthetic role. It gives definition to the breast mound, defining its ultimate shape and appearance. For the appearance of a breast without the NAC could be compared to the sight of Paris without the Eiffel Tower as both of those could be deemed unrealistic. The author presents an original method for reconstructing the nipple mound in patients after breast reconstruction. The method involves the use of autologous tissues, TRAM flap being the most frequent choice. To reconstruct the nipple mound, personally modified the C-V flap technique is used as described by Losken, with a silicone rod to obtain permanent projection. The described method is based on simple preparation of cutaneous-subcutaneous flaps, fixing the appropriately adjusted silicone rod at the nipple bottom and below the top with single sutures. It has proved to be efficient and effective; it is accepted by patients, and, most importantly, it does not increase the amount of time or money necessary to perform the procedure.
